As a young man Barry embraced two adventures filled with challenges and lessons that shaped his character and impacted his life forever. He canoed from the Arctic Circle to the Gulf of Mexico and hiked from the Mexican border to the heartland of Minnesota. These epic expeditions have been captured in two books: It’s Uphill Most of the Way Down – A Journey of Adventure and Faith and Walk in Their Dust – Retracing the Trails of America’s Pioneers.

  • Earned a Master’s degree in Communication, a Doctoral degree in Strategic Leadership, and Professional Certification in Human Resource Management

In addition to his memoirs Barry has written a variety of articles for educational, professional and secular publications. He graduated from Gustavus Adolphus College in 1973. He earned his M.A in Communications from the University of Minnesota and his doctoral degree (DSL) in Strategic Leadership from Regent University, West Virginia. Barry and his wife Terry currently live in northern Minnesota. They have two adult children and two grandsons. Barry continues to be an avid outdoorsman whose interests include camping, fishing, hiking, and a new interest in kayaking.
